Book Reviews for Max Trescott's G1000 Glass Cockpit Handbook

Garmin G1000 Rod Machado

Rod Machado is a popular humorist and aviation author. You can find his website at www.rodmachado.com.

Aviation Consumer evaluated all G1000 training materials and called our book the "Overall Winner."  They say:
There’s only one comprehensive book on the G1000, but it’s a good one. Max Trescott’s G1000 Glass Cockpit Handbook is comprehensive, well-written, and organized for easy retrieval of information. Finding some obscure item later on is a big plus that, in our opinion, all the training video systems lack.

Because it’s text, you can scan parts you already know and read in depth where you want to learn more. This is important because Trescott’s CFI-soul can’t help but throw in some general comments that most pilots already know and do. Tips and techniques are clearly called out in sidebars and there are plenty of full-color images used in examples.

Trescott’s book not only balances its comments between G1000 installations in several aircraft, it summarizes differences and features in several appendices. We feel he hits the right balance of explaining how key features work and then giving practical suggestions for using them, such as how to employ the G1000 weather pages during in-flight decision-making or combining the range ring and engine information to find a power setting that will skip a fuel stop.

The only things missing from the book are sidebars or an appendix with the steps for key functions listed. This would make reviewing functions much easier when you haven’t flown for a while. The soft-cover book is reasonably priced at $34.95 and is available from Trescott’s Website www.glasscockpitbooks.com or 800-247-6553.

"I love this book. Finally a technical reference that doesn't put me to sleep. I read the book, then went flying then read the book again. Just the chapter on "Instrument Flying with the G1000" is worth the price of the whole book."                       --Arlynn McMahon, Master CFI

"As a pilot with about 500 hours of G1000 time, I have made it required reading here for our flight instructors. Great work on the book"
                                     --Jim Sherman, Maine Aviation

"As a former B-747 captain and FAA check airman, I know how important it is to be extremely accurate with training material--Max's book brings airline-quality systems knowledge to the general aviation audience in this terrific training tool.

"I think the book is excellent and is just what we have needed here at our flight school.

"Love the book." ---Fred Zanegood, Marketing Mgr

"Thank you for writing a book like this!"
                                  --Andy Dutz, President
The Flight School at Palm Springs, CA

"You are to be congratulated on your book. I consider it a must have for anyone who teaches in the G1000 as well as anyone who flies these incredible aircraft. It provides a single resource to use when transitioning as well as a reference for the experienced G1000 user. I specifically enjoyed the hints you placed in the margins and intend to incorporate them into my training. Most problematic for folks I fly with is the proper use of the KAP 140. You have gone a long way to help them with your segment on that model of autopilot.
                                  --Michael Gilbert, CFII
                           Aviation Adventures, Leesburg, VA

"We're pretty thrilled about it.'
                           --Sven Samson, Master CFI
                        Avion Air Academy, Sanford, FL
